Gabors Data Analysis and AI Lab
Gabors Data Analysis and AI Lab: Empowering researchers, educators, and practitioners with the tools and guidance needed to integrate data analysis and AI into their work.
About
Gabors Data Analysis and AI Lab is a research and education initiative housed within the Economics Department of Central European University, serving as Europe’s emerging hub for open-source data analysis and AI education in the social sciences.
Democratize access to data analysis and AI education: Built on the foundation of the “Data Analysis for Business, Economics, and Policy” textbook ecosystem, the Lab creates and maintains comprehensive open-source educational infrastructure for quantitative social science. We develop teaching materials, case studies, coding resources, and interactive tools that enable educators and researchers worldwide to integrate modern data science and AI techniques into their work.
A bridge institution: We bridge academic rigor with practical application, translating complex methods into accessible resources and implementation guidance for practitioners worldwide.
US/EU University Lab in Vienna and Budapest: Built at Central European University —an international, English-language institution that combines American and European academic traditions with open society values. We serve a global community of educators, students, and practitioners by providing practical guidance on integrating AI into data analysis workflows, while our European base offers international partners diverse perspectives on analytics use cases and AI implementation.
The Lab was founded by Gábor Békés (CEU, Austria; KRTK, Hungary and CEPR, UK) and Gábor Kézdi (formerly: Corvinus, CEU, KRTK and U Michigan, USA), continuing their decade-long collaboration in advancing data analysis education.
What We Do
Educational Ecosystem Development: We create and maintain comprehensive open-source educational resources including the complete Data Analysis textbook ecosystem—from foundational case studies and datasets to advanced coding tutorials and interactive dashboards. Our materials support hundreds of educators teaching quantitative methods worldwide.
Research and Education on Applying AI in Data Analysis: We pioneer research into how artificial intelligence can support, extend, and augment every stage of the data analysis pipeline—from data collection and cleaning to model design, analysis, and reporting. This includes developing AI-integrated coursework and producing accessible reviews of AI tools for academic and policy applications.
Next-Generation Data User Training: We train applied data analysts who launch careers as data scientists in business, pursue advanced academic research, or conduct evidence-based policy work. Our research assistants and associates gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge methodologies while contributing to our open-source mission.
All our materials are freely available and open-source, removing barriers to high-quality quantitative education globally.
